Wantagh High School’s graduating Class of 2022 included 25 recipients of the Advanced Placement Capstone diploma, which acknowledges their success in challenging college-level courses. Nine students in the current senior class have also qualified for the diploma when they graduate in June 2023.
To receive the AP Capstone diploma, students must earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar, AP Research and on four additional AP Exams. Earning the distinction from last year’s graduating class were Emma Alexander, Robert Ambrosino, John Diglio, Julia Froese, Matthew Henglein, Elizabeth Immel, Julia Inayan, Sara Jacobs, Tessa Kurtzman, Joseph Labo, Michelle Li, Skylar Marchesi, Stephen Mendolia, Christopher Morale, Patrick Moran, Isabella Nocera, Jenna Rackley, Ashley Reisert, John Roemer, Julianna Rose, Jennifer Rosen, Kelly Taggart, Paige Treiland, Tanika Varanasi and Jamie Watstein.
Additionally, 10 students were awarded the AP Seminar and Research Certificate by earning scores of 3 or higher for their assessments in those two courses. They are Despina Avgousti, Angelina Bendetti, Sarah Braun, Faith Donaghy, Alicia Favata, Vasilios Kanellis, Ava Kornbluth, Kylie Masterson, Matthew Panella and Nicole Tobia.
AP Seminar and AP Research assessments are project based and evaluate skill mastery through group projects, presentations and individual essays. More than 2,200 schools participated in the AP Capstone program worldwide during the 2021-22 school year. Approximately 14,100 students earned the AP Capstone diploma and 9,200 received the AP Seminar and Research Certificate.
“We proudly recognize the achievements of students who participated in the AP Capstone diploma program,” Principal Dr. Paul Guzzone said. “Our AP Capstone students and teachers showed extraordinary commitment while facing historic challenges. This is a meaningful college readiness program that will serve our students well after high school.”
From Wantagh High School’s Class of 2023, nine students have already met the requirements for an AP Capstone diploma: Sean Browne, Alexander Como, Katherine Killian, Matthew Lin, Stefano Linardi, Natasha Meagher, Angela Pellicoro, James Romano and Nora Toscano.
