Wantagh Lions Club Teaches Fourth Graders Importance of Arbor Day with Tree Saplings
The Wantagh Lions Club made their annual visit to all three elementary schools just before spring recess delivering tree saplings to each fourth grade student. The kind and educational gesture is to remind students to plant a tree in honor of National Arbor Day celebrated on April 26.
Students also learn the significance of Arbor Day by reading a packet, also courtesy of the Wantagh Lions Club, filled with information about the special day, planting instructions, a fun tree-themed crossword puzzle, and coloring page.
Ms. Joyce’s fourth grade class at Mandalay Elementary go even further by discussing the history and creation of Arbor Day with additional lessons throughout their science and writers workshop units, and learning the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling.
Assistant Principal Mrs. Iannuzzi is grateful to the Lions Club for providing Wantagh Elementary’s fourth grade students with the tree saplings, teaching them the importance of trees, and that together we can make a difference.
Forest Lake Principal Mr. Burke shared that he loves the fact that planting tree saplings is a community event, and that it’s a great way to engage students about the environment.
