Poetry Project Focuses on Favorite Fall Pastimes
Fall is officially in the air and Ms. Martinek's 1st grade class at Mandalay Elementary wants you to know what makes the season so special to them.
The assignment focused on poetry but it wasn't just about writing a poem that made the assignment exciting. The lesson asked the students to sit down with their families over the weekend to discuss what they especially loved about the fall season. Pumpkin and apple picking were big ones as many students wrote their fall favorite activities on manilla construction paper. Additional popular activities included jumping in fallen leaves, fishing and of course football. Some students also love to snuggle with parents and are looking forward to the Thanksgiving holiday.
The multi-layered assignment allowed students to work on many different skills including communication, writing, tracing, motor by cutting, gluing, and cleaning up their desks for the next assignment.
Once all of these tasks were completed, each student now has an acorn that's sure to be a precious memento for families reminding them of their first graders favorite fall activities for years to come.
