Freshmen Field Day Fosters Teamwork & Fun
The first field day of the school year took place on the Wantagh High School football field where the freshmen spent their day getting to know one another through interactive team games and physical challenges. The day was organized by the student Physical Education Leaders, otherwise known as the P.E. Leaders.
"Freshman field day is an excellent experience for all that are involved,” says Katelyn Baudo, Co-President of the P.E. Leaders Club at Wantagh High School. “It’s a great way for students to engage and get to know each other. The upperclassmen guide and lead them through fun, physical activities to get them excited for the year!"
Activities included tic, tac, toe t-shirt games, relay races, team-building exercises, and more. The highlight for many was the water games which brought plenty of laughter and energy, and of course wet clothes. Freshmen Field day set a positive tone for the beginning of the school year blending fitness, teamwork, and fun.
"Freshman Field Day has become an event that the P.E.Leaders group took over a few years ago,” says Ms. DiBase, Physical Education teacher and club advisor at Wantagh High School. “Our main goal is to have the Freshman participate in a variety of activities that are led by the members of our club. It has been really nice to see our club members take an active role in organizing and running each station. Overall it's a great day for our Freshman."
The P.E. Leaders Club also organizes and participates in various activities throughout the school year including blood drives (Fall/Spring), Breast Cancer Awareness T-shirt Sale, P.S. I Love You Day, and the Elementary Field Day at each school across the school district.
