Forest Lake Transforms Into Hogwarts During Quidditch Competition

A 22-year tradition continued in physical education classes at Forest Lake Elementary School as students played the not-so-fictional game of Quidditch.
Originally made up in the “Harry Potter” series, Quidditch has become all too real for students who look forward to the competition every year. During classes, students experienced each role during game play, including beaters, chasers and goalies. Not only is it a very active game, physical education teacher Christine Moran said, but it promotes teamwork.
All students in the school were placed on one of four teams representing the Hogwarts School houses – Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Ms. Moran said that they earn points for their team by scoring goals in Quidditch competitions, by wearing team colors and through other spirit challenges. Older students get to go on searches for golden snitches around the gymnasium.
“They get so pumped,” she said. “The game is way older than them, but a lot of them still know it.”
The gym has plenty of “Harry Potter” décor from movie posters to pictures to the flags of the Hogwarts houses. Banners that read “Welcome Wizards” were hung the hallway leading to the gymnasium to build excitement.
