World Cultures Learned Through Art, Games, and Interactive Contests

Last week, the district celebrated World Language Week with an assortment of cultural activities ranging from art presentations, language contests, sampling delicious treats, creative masks, and playing games. Kicking off the week were the World Language Honor Society Inductions for students in Spanish, Italian, and French.
In addition to the ceremonies, World Languages teachers Ms. Gimeli and Ms. Hampson celebrated the week by inviting students to participate in a fun and engaging contest. Students were given a sheet with the phrase "I Love You" written in 16 different languages and were asked to find 16 different teachers to identify each language and sign off on the sheet. At the end of the week, five winners rose to the occasion in Spanish, Italian, and French which included Spanish Winners- Grace Fields, Haley Fahey, and Tanisha Athwal; Italian Winner - Leia Gallegos; and French Winner - Gianna Fitzpatrick.
Ms. Friedwald’s seventh-grade French students had a fantastic time playing their first game of Pétanque, a popular French pastime similar to Bocce.
Mr. Zagari’s sixth-grade Italian class embraced the festive spirit of Carnevale by crafting vibrant Mardi Gras masks.
Ms. Benedetta’s elementary students from across the district explored Spanish-speaking countries around the world, showcasing their research through engaging presentations for their peers.
