Fitness Has a Fun Winter Twist at Mandalay
Winter-themed fitness stations delighted students at Mandalay Elementary School in the Wantagh School in the days leading up to the holiday break.
During recess on Dec. 18, students enjoyed the activities during recess. The gymnasium featured numerous centers that connected to cold-weather sports. There was knock hockey, a snowball toss and snowboarding. Students bounced bean bags off of tables and into a bin for ski ball and scooted around cones in a snowmobile simulation.
Physical education teacher Jared Bursky said that activities supported skills students have been learning since the beginning of the school year like body control and hand-eye coordination, while promoting physical fitness. After being introduced to the stations during recess, children again could play the games in their physical education classes the last two days before vacation.
