Forest Lake Celebrates Freedom With Veterans Wall
A tribute to veterans was front and center at Forest Lake Elementary School. The inaugural Veterans Wall, located in the lobby, honored relatives of students who served in the multiple branches of the United States armed forces.
To mark Veterans Day, all students were invited to submit a photo or drawing and information about a relative who served or is actively serving in the military. The images were then assembled on several display boards. Principal Thomas Burke said that more than 40 men and women, including parents and grandparents of students, were spotlighted for their service spanning multiple eras.
All classes walked through the museum on Nov. 8, which was the last day of school before the long Veterans Day weekend.
“It’s important to honor our veterans and recognize the freedoms that we have today because of them,” Mr. Burke said. “We want the students to appreciate the heroes they have in their lives.”
