Van Gogh Museum Inspires Young Artists
Forest Lake Elementary 3rd and 4th grade students channeled their inner 19th century artist by working on a Van Gogh Unit making their art teacher, Ms. Capozzi very proud. The 3rd graders painted Sunflowers, a symbol of “gratitude,” inspired by the artist and the 4th graders recreated several of Vincent Van Gogh's famous paintings to create a "Van Gogh Museum" for the school.
This creative and colorful project creates a learning environment where students are encouraged to communicate and work together to create pieces by one of the most famous artists in history. Within a ten-year period, the artist created over 2100 pieces of art including over 850 oil paintings of which most were completed in the last two years of his life.
Each piece is displayed in the school’s temporary “Van Gogh Museum” in the hallway of the school just outside of the art room. Those passing by will enjoy the student artist replicas of The Starry Night, Sunflowers, Irises, Cafe Terrace, Self Portrait, Almond Blossoms, The Church at Auvers, Wheat Field with Cypresses, The Postman, and The Bedroom.
