Battle of the Cupcakes at Wantagh Middle School

Eighth graders were measuring, mixing and decorating in Ultimate Chef classes at Wantagh Middle School for the annual Cupcake Wars competition. Students worked in teams to create elaborate displays for the year-end challenge that tests their culinary knowledge from the year. 

This year’s theme was brand names. Students could make displays that represented any brand they liked, including clothing, food, electronics, toys, sports teams, restaurants and stores. There were 46 displays that showcased their culinary creativity. The frosting job was only part of the visual appeal, as the young chefs also added props and colorful display boards.   

Ultimate Chef teachers Valerie Gompers and Janine Rotondo invited their middle school colleagues to vote for their favorite display. Teachers could visit the Family and Consumer Science classrooms or vote on a Google Form that had pictures of all of the creations.
