Italian Language Learners Have Success on National Exam
Three Wantagh students were recognized for their achievement on the National Italian Exam, an annual contest offered by the American Association of Teachers of Italian. Students took the exam in April and results were recently announced.
Wantagh High School sophomore Gabriel Avitabile earned Gold Medal honors at the 3A level after finishing in the 99th percentile nationally. He also earned a $75 monetary prize.
Sophomore Francesco Pellicoro earned Merit Honors at the 3B level. Wantagh Middle School eighth grader Isabella Sleeper earned Bronze Medal Honors at the 1A level.
“As their teacher, I am incredibly proud of their achievements and their passion for the Italian language,” said Italian teacher Franco Zagari. “We thank them for their participation in such a prestigious, national contest.”
