Broadway hit “The SpongeBob Musical” makes its way to Wantagh High School, where the drama club will tell the tale of the fictional character who lives in a pineapple under the sea. There are four performances from March 31 through April 2. To purchase tickets, visit Seatyourself.com.

“The SpongeBob Musical” features irresistible characters and magical music based on the Nickelodeon cartoon, “SpongeBob SquarePants.” A cast of 30 Wantagh High School student-actors portray the citizens of Bikini Bottom, who discover that a volcano will soon erupt and destroy their humble home. SpongeBob and his friends must come together to save their undersea world. 

Lead actors include Anthony Lerro as SpongeBob, Logan Schroh as Patrick, Ashlee Fucarino as Sandy Cheeks, Lorenzo Hilliard as Patchy and Sardine, Hunter Fasano as Squidward, Kristien Koppe as Mr. Krabs, Nicole Tobia as Pearl and Trinity Bokelmann as Plankton. 

“Everyone in the cast is so incredibly talented,” said Ashlee a sophomore, starring in her fourth show at Wantagh High School. She looks forward to bringing Sandy Cheeks to life on stage and said the audience will be taken on an emotional rollercoaster as they follow the trials and tribulations of the characters. 

nthony, a junior, is portraying the title character and said the upbeat music will delight the audience. 

“It’s a very different type of music,” he said, “because it’s many different styles of songs. No two songs are alike.”

The show features original songs by many well-known artists and bands including Yolanda Adams, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Sara Bareilles, David Bowie, Jonathan Coulton, Alexander Ebert of Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros, Tom Kenny, The Flaming Lips, Lady A, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Andy Paley, Panic! At the Disco, Plain White T’s, They Might Be Giants and T.I. Additional lyrics are by Jonathan Coulton, with additional music by Tom Kitt.

The show is directed and choreographed by Dr. Kimberly Davis with vocal direction by Sameerah Cassidy. The pit features students and teachers performing live music under the direction of Dan Aviles, and the stage crew is led by Austin Costello.

Performances are Friday, March 31 at 7 p.m., Saturday, April 1 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Sunday, April 2 at 1 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for children and senior citizens.
