District Attorney Lauds Wantagh High School Student Leader

Rarely does an event take place at Wantagh High School where junior Danny Donahue can’t be found. His involvement in school life earned him the SHIELD Award from Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly.
Danny is co-president of the general organization and, through that role, is one of two student liaisons to the Wantagh Board of Education. He has been Class of 2026 president for three years, serves as treasurer of the Surfride Oceanic Conservation Club, is the string ensemble liaison to the Wantagh Performing Arts Booster Club, and is a member of Peer Mentors and several honor societies. Additionally, Danny has been on the varsity volleyball team for three years, serving as a captain this year, and plays tennis.
Earlier this year, he helped spearhead a new and gently used book collection for the Book Fairies as a member of the National English Honor Society. Through student government, he also coordinated a project to have students write letters of gratitude for veterans at the Northport VA Medical Center.
Those are just a sampling of ways that Danny has helped his community and beyond, while also rallying other students to get involved. He said it is an honor to give to others and is grateful for the numerous service and leadership opportunities that Wantagh High School provides. His enthusiasm for learning and school involvement can be traced back to his days at Forest Lake Elementary School.
The SHIELD Award is presented to a high school junior who shows outstanding strength of character, commitment to self-growth and the spirit and initiative to bring about positive change in their community. The recognition goes to students who embody service, honesty, integrity, excellence, leadership and duty. Danny was nominated by guidance counselor Courtney Prestianni.
