Homecoming Victory Caps Memorable Afternoon in Wantagh

There was plenty to cheer about for fans of the Wantagh Warriors on Oct. 3, from a lively parade, to rousing performances from the cheerleaders and marching bands to a thrilling victory for the varsity football team.
Students, parents and community members lined Wantagh Avenue for the annual homecoming parade which featured the board of education and administration, Homecoming court, class floats, PTA representatives, community organizations and much more. Director of Guidance Christopher Nyberg was the grand marshal. The crowd then made their way to the bleachers, which filled up for Wantagh’s game against Glen Cove. The cheers were almost nonstop as the Warriors put the ball in the end zone seven times for a 49-0 victory to improve to 4-0 on the season.
Halftime featured the crowning of homecoming king and queen, Tommy Dillon and Emma Bush. Rounding out the homecoming court were Bobby Friedman, Dylan Loveland, Camryn Mitchell and Ella Perfetti. Students were asked to choose a king and queen based on someone who possesses kindness, leadership and respect, in addition to being involved in both school and community activities.
The seniors, with their Super Mario Brothers design, were announced as the winners of this year’s homecoming float contest with a “video games” theme. A high-energy performance from the varsity cheerleaders was then followed by the marching band show, “Throwback Radio.” The band was led by drum majors Ricky Boyko, Peyton Burlew and Sean Tinoco, along with flag captains Ariana Chavez and Leia Gallegos, and dance captains Halle Hzrich and Elena Radoslovich.
