Mandalay Elementary School has a new theme this year which encourages students to R.I.S.E. Up with a new initiative designed to help students respect, include, support, and empower themselves and one another. 

 

The assembly kicked off the school year with students and staff filling the gymnasium in colorful matching tee shirts designed by Mandalay parent Mrs. Caccamo, and voted on by the student body. Each staff committee member made a brief presentation announcing each pillar and what it stands for.  Student committee members Angela, Isabella, Luca, Noah, and Adriano each shared examples with the audience how they can each R.I.S.E. Up when met with challenging situations.

 

Part of this initiative gives students and staff the ability to nominate students they see displaying the pillar which changes every two months. Students will then be honored with shout-outs and photos displayed on the newly decorated bulletin board in the lobby.

 

Another important piece of this initiative is Tech-Free Tuesdays encouraging student so lay down the digital devices each week. Students led an engaging discussion with Sean, and Mary Kate from Wantagh High School who shared their tech-free experiences over the years. They shared that by putting their phones or game devices away helped them establish better friendships, fully engage in outdoor experiences and meaningful conversations with friends and family. Mandalay families are also asked support their students by having Tech-Free Tuesdays at home.

 

The R.I.S.E. Up initiative is a committee that brings students, staff, and parents together to improve the school experience for all.
