Forest Lake Winter Concert Showcases Fresh Tunes and MLK Tribute
Music echoed through the building during the in-school Winter Concert rehearsal, showcasing the talents of the Forest Lake Elementary School orchestra, band, and chorus. This special daytime performance also included second grade students who gave tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by singing songs and poetry honoring the Civil Rights leader.
The daytime concert gave students the opportunity to calm pre-concert jitters and build confidence before taking the stage later that evening in front of family and friends at Wantagh High School.
Under the direction of Mr. Vannoni, the orchestra performed March and Canon by Thomas May, Allegretto by Shinichi Suzuki, and Five Note Fiddler by Brian Balmages. Though modest in size, the band delivered a polished and expressive performance that suggested they were preparing for a much grander stage.
The band, led by Mr. Annunziata, followed with spirited selections including The Great Colossus by Gary Henderson, Caribbean Breeze by Victor Lopez, and Creepy Crawlies by Michael Story. The rich blend of brass and percussion filled the room with energy, creating melodies that were truly a delight to hear.
New chorus instructor, Kaitlyn Cavallo, made her debut bringing fresh sounds and energy with the melodic selections of Bwana Awabariki by Mackenzie Zinser and Charlotte, The Moon by Benjamin Smith and Ethan Heit, and Snow by Teresa Jennings. Snow featured a fun musical collaboration with both the band and orchestra ending the concert on a fun high note.
