Kindergartners and fifth graders at Wantagh Elementary School are definitely thankful for each other. Students in Samantha Barrett’s kindergarten class are visited by their older peers from Gillian Leroy’s class once a month for seasonal activities, and it is always a highly anticipated day for both groups.

On Nov. 22, Thanksgiving was the focus. It started with fifth graders doing a group read aloud of “The Thankful Book” by Todd Parr. Then, kindergartners worked with their individual buddies to make a construction paper turkey craft. Fifth graders helped their younger friends do accordion folds for the feathers and glue the different components together. Students got to take their paper turkeys home for a Thanksgiving decoration.
