A Message From
Superintendent McNamara
Dear Wantagh Community,
I look forward to the start of the 2026–27 school year! The first day of school for our students is Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
This was a busy summer across the district for facilities projects:
- Wantagh High School: Began renovations on our library, student lounge, and courtyard area. We also completed the 9/11 Memorial at the front of WHS—a heartfelt thank you to all the generous donors who made this possible.
- Wantagh Middle School: Completed window replacements in over 70% of classrooms and finished the installation of HVAC equipment to provide central heating and cooling across the building.
- Wantagh Elementary School: Completed upgrades in several classrooms.
- Mandalay Elementary School: Renovated six classroom bathrooms and continued window installation and masonry work.
- Forest Lake Elementary School: Continued window replacements and masonry work.
I am also pleased to welcome two administrators joining our leadership team this year:
- Mrs. Briana James joins us as the new Principal at Wantagh Elementary School. Mrs. James previously served as WES Assistant Principal before spending five years as an Elementary Principal in the Islip School District. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience back to our district.
- Mr. Christopher Nyberg begins his tenure as the K–12 Director of Guidance. Mr. Nyberg previously served as a high school counselor in Wantagh for over 15 years.
I look forward to another outstanding school year for our students!
Warm regards,
John C. McNamara
