Probationary Positions - 2022-2023

Middle School Special Education Grade 6

The Wantagh School District is seeking a caring Special Education Teacher for a probationary position in our Middle School.


  • High proficiency in the instruction of students with disabilities in the Integrated Co-Teaching Classroom.
  • A deep understanding in differentiated instruction and technology implementation.
  • Elementary Certification in Special Education (SWD) K- 6 or Middle School Extension.
  • Experience with developing IEPs, administering academic testing and participation in CSEs.  

Essential Functions:

  • Ability to work collaboratively with content area teachers to deliver highly effective lessons in an integrated setting.
  • Support the emotional well-being of students
  • Promoting a positive classroom environment that focuses on student- centered and student driven learning experiences.

Speech Teacher - Substitute

* Demonstrate experience in utilizing research-based speech and language intervention strategies.
* Successful experience as a school-based speech and language therapist.
* Knowledge and experience in special and general education, pedagogy and assessment (including data analysis).

* Able to administer, analyze and score standardized assessments to generate the necessary reports and recommendations.
* Provides mandated speech and language therapy for students as described on each student's IEP.
* Able to develop and monitor IEP goals and objectives. 
* Serve as the Speech and Language Pathologist at CSE meetings for students, demonstrating a strong knowledge of the CSE process, referral and evaluation processes and IEP development.
* Maintains IEP compliance, student files and rosters for the school team.
* Participate as a member of the school-based child study team.
* Develops and implements intervention strategies.
* Background in assessment and AAC preferred.

* NYS Speech and Language Disabilities Certification
* Previous experience as an SLP preferred.

Administrative Position  

Elementary Director for Curriculum & Instruction

The Wantagh School District is looking for a talented instructional leader to serve in the position of Elementary Director of Curriculum & Instruction. The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • A commitment to the ongoing growth and development of high-quality academic programming.
  • Deep knowledge of elementary level curriculum and pedagogy.
  • Experience as an elementary school teacher and instructional leader.
  • The ability to communicate and lead effectively with others.
  • The ability to plan and deliver high quality professional development experiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate respectfully with others.
  • An understanding of state reporting, budget management, and organizational skills.
  • A growth mindset and a student-centered approach to leadership and learning.

This position reports directly to the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction and includes but is not limited to the following responsibilities:

  • Facilitate leadership team meetings with the three elementary building principals.
  • Collaborate with the elementary principals to set individual building goals as well as coordinate districtwide elementary learning goals.
  • Supervise, observe, and coach elementary teachers with building principals.
  • Develop and coordinate a professional development plan for all elementary staff members, aligned with district goals.
  • Review and continue to develop curriculum maps for Math, Science, Social Studies and ELA, maintaining the most updated versions of that curriculum on our school website.
  • Supervise and lead the following teachers, departments or programs: o Math & Reading AIS departments
  • STEAM Teachers
  • Elementary Library program
  • Technology Push in Program & Curriculum
  • RTI & Data Coordinator (Teacher Leader Position)
  • Model Teacher Program (elementary level)
  • Horizons Program
  • Manage the elementary budget in terms of curriculum related supplies and equipment.
  • Supervise all RTI programming, IST meeting processes, student data analysis, student data days and SEL programming.
  • Facilitate elementary teacher curriculum or PD committees.
  • Complete all appropriate paperwork for Title I, state assessment orders, BOCES, PD contracts and other district level needs.
  • Organize and supervise any summer programs, curriculum projects or training related to the elementary level.

Collaborate with SCOPE to ensure a high-quality Pre-K program experience for students and families. Appropriate NYS School District Admin certification required.

Per Diem Substitutes

The Wantagh School District holds our substitutes in high accord. We are currently accepting applications for per diem TEACHER substitutes in the 2021-22 school year.

  • Interviews will be on-going.
  • Please be sure to include 3 reference emails on your OLAS application.

Per diem pay rate is $100 per day and increases to $110 per day for days 21 - 40, topping off at $120 per day.
We do have some dates that would be indicated on the absence at $110 per day regardless of your seniority.
