Wantagh High School Theatre is pleased to announce that Katriana Koppe was awarded the Best Actress Roger Rees Award for Excellence in Student Performance presented by Disney Theatrical Group and The Broadway Education Alliance. The Award recognizes distinction in student performance on the stage and outstanding achievement in high school musical theater programs in the New York City area. Katriana received the award for her stellar lead performance as Cinderella in the school’s production of Rogers & Hammerstein’s “Cinderella.”

Katriana found out she had received the Best Actress award when the announcement was flashed on the ABC News screen in the middle of Times Square on May 27.

She will now represent the greater New York region later this month in the Broadway League Foundation’s National High School Musical Theatre Awards, also known as the Jimmy Awards, during an intensive week of auditions and professional coaching. The Jimmy Awards will stream on July 15, 2021.

Wantagh Theatre Director Kimberly Davis said the award is well-deserved for this talented young actress. “This is life-changing for Katriana,” she said. “Many previous recipients of this prestigious award have garnered leading roles on the Broadway stage.”

The district congratulates Katriana for this outstanding accomplishment and best wishes for success at the upcoming Broadway League Foundation’s National High School Musical Theatre Awards.
